Horrible Week!

So this week started off ok. Martin working, Charlotte eating-pooping-sleeping, and me kinda not feeling so good. Monday after work Martin got home and was super tired so he took a nap. He woke up around 6 p.m. and told me he had a stomach ache. I tried to give him Tums, Pepto Bismol and Tylenol but he didn't want anything. I had kinda been achy so I headed for bed around 11 p.m. Martin came to bed a little bit later. About 1 a.m. Martin wakes me up and says his stomach hurt worse and proceeded to lie in the fetal position on the bedroom floor. We both decided we needed to go get things checked out. I was nervous about taking Charlotte to the emergency room but Martin's pain was slowly getting worse and worse. We decided to go to the ER. Luckily we live right across the street from a hospital.

We arrived at the hospital, they admitted him, and started treating him. The doctor ordered a cat scan and started him on pain killers. He suspected kidney stones or appendicitis. The cat scan came back clear of kidney stones and no signs of an infected appendix. But since Martin's pain had moved from the left to the right side of the stomach and it had slowly increase with intensity, he was pretty sure it was his appendix. Now we were waiting for the surgeon. In the meantime I felt achy, exhausted and only have a horrible chair sit in while holding Charlotte.

That morning Martin headed back to surgery for an appendectomy. He was only in surgery about an hour. Everything went well and he slept for a while after the surgery. One of the nurses could see how exhausted I was so she wheeled a bed into the room for me to get some rest. I was so thankful for the bed. Martin's dad stopped by to bring me diapers, food and relieve me from holding Charlotte for a bit. My dad stopped by to feed me and hold Charlotte. That night Martin's mom flew in from Indiana to help me out and be with Martin. Martin seemed to be doing great that evening. He was walking around and eating.

That night I went home to sleep and then came back around 2 am. Martin was suppose to come home the next morning. Martin woke up said he had a head ache and was really sensitive to light. He felt much worse than he did the night before. For some reason we were talking about Martin being allergic to penicillin and his mom mentioned that he was also allergic to another antibiotic. She thought it started with an L. I was curious so I went to ask the nurses what antibiotic he was receiving. It was Levaquin. We immediately freaked out. Martin's mom called his doctor to confirm Levaquin was the antibiotic and I called the pharmacy. Yup it was Levaquin. It turns out he isn't allergic he just experiences some severe side effects from the antibiotic.

That afternoon the doctor came in. Martin told him about his symptoms he was experiencing and the doctor took him of the Levaquin and gave him some fluids to flush the antibiotic out of his system. Martin decided to stay another night to make sure the antibiotic was out of him. That evening he was doing a lot better. Me on the other hand had taken a turn for the worst. Martin got up to go to the bathroom and walk and I felt like calapsing. I just laid on the bed while he was out walking. That is when I decided to go home. My dad and step mom were visiting so they came home with Charlotte and me. I decided to take my temperature when I got home, it was 102 degrees. I was also achy and had the chills. I was miserable. My dad and step mom stayed long enough to put Charlotte to sleep and then headed home. Martin's mom was at the hospital with him so I wasn't worried about him.

In the morning I was able to get a doctors appointment. I have Mastitis, a breast infection. I can't believe a breast infection can make you feel so horrible. Soon after I got home from the doctor Martin got released from the hospital and was home too.

Now that we are home and feeling better it is such a relief. It is crazy how everything seems to happen at once. I am just thankful Charlotte was so good this week and for all the help from our parents.

Man! What a super crappy week! Austin had his appendix out too about a year after being married, but luckily we didn't have Kate yet. I don't know how you did all that with a baby AND mastitis!! What a pain! I'm glad you guys are feeling better.
